Google is calling out to h*ckers and security researchers to come and participate in its new Project Zero Prize Competition which is aimed at finding critical flaws on the Android operating system.
Last month, Apple marked a zero day for researchers to find vulnerabilities on its kernel and in which it offered a $50,000 bounty and other rewards. Google's Zero day contest is being run by Project Zero, the company's own internal team of security researchers that document critical flaws and bugs in wide-reaching software.
Google is giving out a $200,000 as the grand prize, $100,000 as the second prize while $50,000 would be split among additional entrants. In other to be eligible for any of the prizes, participants are not to present any old vulnerability and so participants must find a "bug chain or vulnerability that achieves remote code execution knowing only the device phone number and email address."
People willing to participate are to send in their research in the form of an Android tracker report and also forward that bug to the Project zero team for consideration. After consideration, Winners would then be selected and invited to write up their discoveries for the Project Zero blog. This competition would be open for the next six month which is enough time for those who would want to participate.
