An unknown hacker last week hijacked the Victoria Police emergency radio network to disrupt the chase of two robbery suspects in hot pursuit by the police.

The police minister, Lisa Neville described the act as "appalling" but assured that improvements to the network were already planned. The minister made aware that the Australian telecommunication company Telstra had been contracted with $12 million to upgrade the radio system to a more secure digital radio system which is used by the regional police, Lifesaving Victoria and Fire authority.
However, the police chased the suspects to a nearby town of Traralgon where the two were apprehended.
The Australian police are still in hunt for the hacker behind the voice transmission and are calling for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the impersonator.
